All in all, it was a good meeting; my MP didn’t try to antagonize my reasons; after listening to my arguments –I even had a list of cases to prove that what is happening at the Canadian Embassy in Havana is absolutely arbitrary-. People who failed to prove that they had any properties/assets, employed with an average salary, with relatives in Canada, some with more than one and with no travel history got a visa or have a multiple-entry visa; just like some others who met all the ‘requirements’ who ended up staying in Canada. The MP was aware –and he himself provided examples- of arbitrary decisions by Canadian immigration officials in India and Russia ; he mentioned talented Russian mathematicians with an extensive travel history who were equally denied entry to Canada even when they were coming for a scientific exchange He is absolutely aware of the fact that the system doesn’t work and that the government is not about to establish an appeal process for all the visas that are denied; he added that 35 000 people make political refugee claims as soon as they arrive in Canadian soil every year which is a burden to the taxpayers. I agreed that a large number of political refugee claimants just take advantage of the system as I know some people who have successfully done it but the number in itself is the biggest evidence of the system failure. Mr. Woodworth understands that there is no way to tell who will make a refugee claim or who won’t which has been a factor in the toughening of the immigration rules with the disastrous results we know.
Good to know we were on the same page but… what does all that mean for my sister? It means that my sister will have to reapply for a visa (Same expenses again) which won’t be possible until next summer. He suggested that we put together parallel documentation which he will take to the Minister’s office prior to her applying just to see what they say and just to have some ammunition in case the embassy tries to lie again as they did this time around when they said that my sister ‘failed to provide proof of income’ and that she had ‘limited employment prospects’.

We agreed I’d provide the bulk of such parallel documentation to him by the 2nd week of September. We’ll see where this takes us but…failing this, what? He said he would have to make a case directly with the Minister’s office but warned that the present Minister of Immigration is more about going through the channels than about backing down to an MP’s request. He suggested that would be the time to apply pressure on the government ‘in large numbers’. I mentioned the online petition and he said there was nothing wrong with that but that ‘maybe’ I was ahead of myself.
I believe Mr. Woodworth understood that I am not about to give up. I was glad he is aware of the fact –that doesn’t need to be proven- that the system simply doesn’t work; of course, this doesn’t help my sister which is the scary part as nobody seems to be interested in revamping it. It is a pity that a country like Canada has such an inefficient bureaucracy that causes so much pain and disillusion to new Canadians.
My Urgent story .... it's good you at least have an MP that is supporting you !

anothe story of discrimination against Cubans https://www.change.org/p/justin-trudeau-canada-needs-to-relax-and-allow-cubans-to-visit-canada?recruiter=543998489&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=share_petition&utm_term=des-lg-share_petition-custom_msg
Everyone please sign these petition and share.... It is shameful the way I have been treated at ? our Canadian Embassy in Havana when I was born in Canada 63 years ago, business owner for 30 years paying taxes all my life, not to mention the discrimination even against Canadian law !!! I was witness to the officer making comments about the Cuban temporary foreign worker not being a good idea as he is a male to work for my mother... I am caregiver for a brother with a brain injury going through cancer treatment, care giver for my mother and running our business as my husband has hearing and memory problems but it appears the Canadian goernment does not care. They say purpose of visit to make money to fix a house to be safe is not good. I would say trying to make one's house safe is a basic need especially when caring for an 70 year old uncle with cerebral palsy. I had this e-mail the other day from the temporary Cuban worker "Well my uncle has been screaming this lasts days because a piece of his room fall from the roof, even he said now his room get wet when raining,
Thanks God my room don't get wet inside when raining but the bathroom stays as the worst part of the house,
I am just praying that bathroom will resist a couple of years more"
In Canada for me the need is Urgent, in Cuba the need is Urgent to make money to make this house safe.
The $1,000.00 LMIA was approved as Urgent in July 2015 and I am still waiting for justice. Government staff at all levels have been disgusted and recommended the best Immigration lawyer in Toronto who wants $56,000.00 no guarantee. Why should a Canadian employer have to pay that just to get the work permit views objectively and fair treatment to be given as all the standard generic letters from immigration tell me that is the case. It is not the case at all. I can't believe nobody in government can hold Canadian Immigraiton accountable for discrimination against Canadian Law, using incorrrect information about health care training when the LMIA job ad was mostly house work to begin with !! I need an MP that will stand up to the plate and support me. So ashamed on many levels at the Canadian Immigration. I asked for help at the Canadian Embassy in Havana at the Canadian gate and got the shock of my life when I was handed a paper and told "e-mail us" after I told them politely I just came all the way from Canada. The only way I got to talk to the officer was take out a generic letter from Justin Trudeau's office out my purse and write on it that I needed to talk to someone and hand it to the security guard at the Cuban gate at ?our Canadian Embassy. Next the officer told me she was from Montreal and had seen it all and above and proceeded to treat me like a criminal. She snapped at me when I looked down at a piece of paper to see what I wanted to talk about next and demanded to know if I was taking notes. I couldn't beleive it. I was discriminated against by profession !! were The Director of the Temporary Foreign Work Program was as horrifed as other governement officials. This is NO WAY to treat a Canadian citizen that has never committed a crime, has a successful business, gives back to the community in many ways. My MP's office told me the Cuban temporary foreign worker passed his interview and no further documents were needed. He was so excited. Two days later the rejection letter cam on a Sunday. Emotional abuse !!!!
